The Little Things We Keep

The treasures we’d never leave behind. The mighty, yet mundane, tokens of a life well lived that we carry with us so that when you’re holding it, even for a brief moment, you can close your eyes and see them sitting beside you.

Introducing the #REELWOMXN Series

Balanced representation has always been my passion. This will be a channel that challenges mainstream entertainment and marketing and demands more than performative allyship. We’ll continue to feature stories of triumph and inclusive media that’s representative of humanity in all its beautiful and complex forms. We will highlight people, art, solutions, communities, campaigns, brands, services, and products we think are pushing for progress. Let’s Talk About White Feminism and Anti-Racist Work

so you want to talk about White Feminism, a visual guide by @soyouwanttotalkabout, which expertly explores and critiques white feminism dating back to the suffragettes to more recently the Women’s March against Donald Trump, inspired me to dig deeper into where I’m currently struggling in my feminist-meets-anti-racist work. One of the biggest challenges I face as a feminist, who is also a white woman striving to be an ally in movements for equality, specifically but not limited to the Black Lives Matter movement, is to not center my experiences in these movements (the irony of centering myself in this example is not lost on me).

The Evolution of M@L

I built the first half of my career working in corporate marketing, communications, philanthropy and foundation giving. Many use their salaries and connections to give back, manage what’s within their power to level the playing field of gender and racial equality, and model respectful behaviors in the workplace.

I’m with Her!

New Beginnings

While working at Citi Community Development, I had the great privilege of helping build the programs, branding and communications for their company wide Military and Veteran’s initiative Citi Salutes. Whether it was educating veterans on how they could transition their military skills into the civilian workforce through interview strategies and training videos, developing a veteran small business entrepreneurs shark tank or simply sharing stories of the brave men and women and their families who served and were now employed at Citi, I was truly inspired by their strength, courage and sense of duty. At the beginning of my career, I was working as a marketing assistant and during a lunch break the conversation turned to that age old 20-something musing, what do you want to be when you grow up? For as long as I can remember I had a very clear picture of what that was. But like most young women looking to break into producing, it was a complicated road to finding the right opportunities to someday run a major studio like Sherry Lansing, write and direct like Nora Ephron all while exhibiting the tall girl confidence of any Geena Davis role with Mary Richard’s comedic timing, wardrobe and spunk.
